Where can I place a garage?
You can build a carport attached to your house or place it freestanding in an outdoor area. Please note that the location of the carport may affect your obligations to notify the council or obtain planning permission.
Without permission
Is the detached garage less than 40 m² and less than 30 m from your home? In that case, according to the regulations, it is not necessary to apply for a permit or inform the city council about the construction.This is as long as the height does not exceed 3.5 m and it is located at a minimum distance of 3 m from the boundary of the plot.
Give 20 days notice
You must inform the city council about the construction of a garage at your home at least 20 days before starting the work.
Building permit
If your attached carport is more than 4m high or is less than 2m (in the rear yard) or 3m (in the side yard) from the boundary of your plot, you will need to apply for a planning permit.
Double garage for several cars
